What to write in the first message on online dating and adventure sites

Literacy

Typo, bad grammar, slang and internet jargon - all this should be removed from the repertoire if you want to increase the likelihood of responding to your message. Use a text checker, but also actually read what you wrote before submitting it!

Be positive and relaxed - write the same as talking to that person live. Try to convey your sense of humor, but keep everything friendly and polite.

Ask a question as part of your message, or joke in a way that the other person can answer.

Be interested in the other person

By this we don’t mean an interest in a date, because the other person already knows that! Instead, show that you read her profile by asking her something about something she wrote - ideally about a common topic.

Be careful with compliments

It can be tempting to comment on someone’s picture, but if you do you will most often end up on a ignore list. Don’t mention any body parts, not even the eyes. Also don’t use adjectives like ‘hot’, ‘beautiful’ - it’s too intrusive and sounds more like whistling for someone on the street than like a friendly, relaxed first message.

Choose a good greeting

In short: saying ‘hi’, ‘hello’ or ‘hey’ will only reduce your chances of getting an answer. Use a closer greeting instead, e.g. ‘how it’s going’, ‘how are you’ or ‘what’s up’. These greetings create a relaxed tone and still sound friendly.
